Pelluer Will Replace Sorensen As Cougs’ Color Commentator
Scott Pelluer, a former standout linebacker at Washington State University and more recently a defensive coach for the University of Washington, will replace Paul Sorensen as color analyst for WSU football radio broadcasts this fall.
The decision to team Pelluer with longtime play-by-play announcer Bob Robertson was made by Broadcast Ink Sports Productions, the Seattle company that produces the 25-station Crimson & Gray Sports Network.
“We selected Scott because he will bring a fresh perspective to our broadcasts,” said Broadcast Ink president Dave Iverson, who refused to extend Sorensen’s contract. “Having played at WSU and coached successfully for several years, Scott doesn’t just know the Cougars, he knows the game.”
Eastern hires Hall
Lorenzo Hall, a former Washington State basketball assistant, has joined Steve Aggers’ staff at Eastern Washington, where he will coach back-court players and coordinate scouting.
Hall, 34, has eight years of collegiate coaching experience, including the 1998-1999 season at WSU. He began his coaching career in 1982 at Cal State Hayward, where he spent five seasons as an assistant before working two years at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.
“Lorenzo is a quality young coach with a rich background of experience,” Aggers said. “He has shown excellent recruiting abilities and has contacts in areas that we need to explore.”
Holt earns Publinx spot
Jim Holt overcame blustery winds and driving rain to shoot rounds of 74 and 71 and win the Public Links regional qualifying tournament at Indian Canyon Golf Course.
Holt’s 36-hole total of even-par 145 topped a field of some of the area’s top amateurs and earned him a spot in the National Public Links tournament, which will be July 12-17 in Alton, Ill.
In a battle for the first-alternate spot, Peter Caruso beat last year’s regional qualifier, Kyle Kelly, in a playoff after both golfers finished a stroke behind Holt at 146.
