IBM is cutting 1,100 jobs in San Jose, Calif., roughly 10 percent of its Northern California work force, in preparation for moving its disk-drive factories to foreign countries. IBM said it will manufacture the computer storage devices in Mexico, Hungary and Japan.

Internet retailer Amazon.com named Joseph Galli its new president and chief operating officer, a new position. Galli, 41, quit his job as president of Black & Decker’s power tools business in April.
