Council Expected To Vote On Several Issues
The Spokane City Council is expected to take action today on several issues. No special considerations or hearings are scheduled.
The City Council briefing session begins at 3:30 p.m. in the council briefing center, on the lower level of City Hall. The City Council meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the City Council chamber, also on the lower level.
The council is expected to consider:
Selecting ALSC Architects to design and oversee construction of the new Park Operations Complex at the former Long Lake Lumber site in the Garry Park neighborhood. The total cost of the proposed contract is $158,042.
Updating an earlier ordinance regarding the Downtown Spokane Parking and Business Improvement Area. The district was formed four years ago.
The district is governed by the ratepayer advisory board, which is responsible for developing and monitoring projects, programs and setting assessments.
The proposed changes are expected to more accurately describe the district programs, assessments and makeup of the board.
An ordinance regarding gas and electric tax exemptions in the manufacture of aeronautical brake components.
The exemption is intended to encourage the development of manufacturing firms and jobs in Spokane.
The ordinance specifically benefits BF Goodrich Aerospace. The company plans to employ more than 200 people at its carbon disk airplane brake factory on the West Plains.
Before the exemption is granted, BF Goodrich is required to sign an agreement not to fight annexation when the city decides to annex the area in the future.
