Itron Extends Its Reach

From Staff

Itron Inc. has added a Texas company to those licensed to sell the company’s automated meter-reading technology.

The one-year deal with C3 Communications Inc. will extend the reach of Spokane-based Itron to small utilities, municipals and cooperatives from Missouri south to Texas, said Itron’s Tim Wolf. Together, he said, they serve about 4.5 million customers.

“Up to this point, Itron products have not enjoyed a strong foothold in the smaller municipal and cooperative market in these states. This agreement will help change that,” Vice President Russ Vanos said in a statement.

C3 also has a meter retrofitting shop that could help support sales of more automated equipment, he said.

Wolf said C3 sells software and hardware manufactured by outside providers like Itron.

C3 is a subsidiary of Central and South West Corp. in Dallas, holding company for four utilities serving 1.7 million U.S. customers. Another in the United Kingdom serves 2 million.
