Riverbend School Gets Expansion Grant
A technical school for students in the Coeur d’Alene, Lakeland and Post Falls school districts will expand next year thanks to a grant from the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation.
The Riverbend Professional Technical School, which offered just one class this semester, received a one-year grant for $729,500 Wednesday. The money will allow the Post Falls school to offer two health-services classes and three more technology courses.
Technical school administrators had applied for a three-year grant, but are hopeful the foundation will continue to provide funding after the first year.
The Riverbend school opened in January in the North Idaho College Workforce Training Center. About a dozen students are enrolled in a class that trains them to use the Microsoft Office computer program.
The school had received a $25,000 grant from the state last summer. The J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation money is part of $9.8 million in grants awarded Wednesday to fund professionaltechnical academies.
