ADAMS COUNTY

Othello

Creative glass designs are on display throughout March at the Old Hotel. Artists Mark Fowler and Barbara Harris, partners in Moses Lake’s Art Glass Designs, are featured at the gallery.

FERRY COUNTY

Curlew

Two Curlew High School students, Ian Turner and Aaron Sutherlin, will go to Chicago on April 24 for an international model bridge building contest. They were Inland Northwest finalists.

GRANT COUNTY

Moses Lake

The police department has put a stop to the distribution of flyers with false information. The flyers warn of LSD-laced kids’ tattoos and gang violence supposedly going on in the area. Allegedly, cars of gang members drive with their lights off and shoot at those who flash their lights at them. The flyers state that DARE officers are responsible for the publications. Moses Lake police deny handing out the flyers, and say no such gang-related incidents have happened.

LINCOLN COUNTY

Odessa

St. Matthew’s Historic Church will be getting a facelift. Although no longer used for services, this 1916 sanctuary is part of the Odessa Historisches Museum. The museum board plans to paint walls, refinish woodwork and floors, and add an ornate tin ceiling.

PEND OREILLE COUNTY

Newport

CREATE, a nonprofit arts organization, recently received an $8,000 grant from Foundation Northwest. The grant will be used for repayment on a loan for the building CREATE purchased last August for a community arts center.

SPOKANE COUNTY

Spokane Valley

The World Association for Children and Parents will sponsor a free adoption information meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday at Valley Hospital and Medical Center.

STEVENS COUNTY

Chewelah

Local women are helping underprivileged children across the globe to smile. Part of a program called “Operation Smile,” the General Federation of Women’s Clubs is sewing and stuffing soft cloth dolls to send to needy kids. The dolls are simple, with blank faces so the children can paint their own smiles on them. The club has finished 40 dolls thus far.

WHITMAN COUNTY

Pullman

The YMCA of WSU is offering a spring break extravaganza for Pullman elementary kids ages 5-12 at the Gladish Community Center beginning Monday.

IDAHO

BENEWAH COUNTY

St.Maries

Caregiver training classes through Hospice of Benewah County begin Monday at 6 p.m. Classes will be Mondays and Wednesdays through March 29 at the Avista building.

BONNER COUNTY

Sandpoint

The Sandpoint Administrative Committee has endorsed a series of rules to improve safety and prevent damage to the city’s parks. The rules will now be considered by the City Council.

Bonners Ferry

The Latah County Republican Central Committee narrowed 10 commissioner applicants to three - Paul Kimmel, Viola; Don Ball, Potlatch; and John Bond, Moscow.

The Shoshone County Fire Prevention Co-op would like to remind residents to be careful when burning grass and yard debris this spring. Burning permits are not required until May 10, but residents may be billed for suppression costs if a fire escapes control.

The Troy City Council has approved a proposal to develop a park on city land near the old Roosevelt Bridge and the sewage treatment plant.
