Emergency Declared In Grays Harbor Flood
Gov. Gary Locke on Thursday proclaimed a state of emergency in Grays Harbor County, saying winter flooding, windstorms and landslides have caused over $2 million worth of damage.
His declaration authorizes help from state agencies, with the Emergency Management Division coordinating the effort. County officials will continue to tally the damage estimates to see if federal aid is justified, the governor said.
Declarations were issued earlier for Thurston, Pacific, Mason, Kitsap and Jefferson counties.
Meanwhile, U.S. Rep. Brian Baird, a Democrat who represents Southwest Washington in Congress, announced a forum Saturday on natural disasters. The three-hour public event will begin at 9 a.m. at the Lower Columbia College Administration Building in Longview. Representatives of federal agencies, the Red Cross and other response agencies will attend.
