Alpine skiing/snowboarding
Many area mountain resorts will be hosting activities this weekend. Lookout Pass is holding a Family Ski and Fun Day Saturday which will include many different races and an obstacle course for all ages.
Lookout Pass will also extend its operating season to include Thursdays and Fridays at least through this month.
Mount Spokane will host the Second Annual Big Air Festival on Saturday. Each participant will be judged on style, landing and rotation, plus there will be categories by age and skill level. Preregistration is limited to 120 participants and closes at 9 a.m. race day. Info: (509-238-2200).
The Inland Northwest Ski Association’s “Five Mountains, Five Challenges” series for skiers and snowboarders ages 11-17 continues Sunday at Mount Spokane.
49 Degrees North is offering free skiing for the rest of this season when a 1999-2000 season pass is purchased.
Silver Mountain will be the site for two contests this weekend: the PEAK Boarder Cross finals on Saturday and the PEAK Big Air Contest on Sunday.
Nordic skiing
All trails were groomed Thursday in the Methow Valley area except for Quartz Mountain. Grooming will end Monday.
The majority of the Schweitzer Mountain nordic trails were groomed last week and are rated in excellent condition.
At the Big Mountain in Whitefish, Mont., all trails were groomed for classic and skate style skiing. Night Nordic skiing is available until 9 p.m. each evening.
Snowmobiling
Once again this week, heavy avalanche warnings are in effect in the Shoshone County Old Mission State Park snowmobiling area.
