Pedestrian Arrested After Run-In With Driver

From Staff Reports

A man who claims he was nearly run over by a truck in a crosswalk was arrested for allegedly breaking the window on the vehicle and beating up the driver.

Elysha J. Brown, 19, told Kootenai County sheriff’s deputies he smacked a Chevrolet Suburban with his hands because the driver passed by him too closely as he crossed Hayden Avenue at U.S. Highway 95. Brown said the driver turned to follow him and tried to run him over before confronting him, according to a deputy’s report.

However, witnesses in several passing cars that stopped told officers Brown was the aggressor. They said Randal Banks, 61, of Hayden, was trying to protect himself from Brown, who was advancing toward him.

One of the motorists who stopped stepped between the men when one of Brown’s friends approached and challenged Banks to a fight, according the report.

Banks told police Brown broke a rear window in his truck, and punched him twice in the face when he stopped. His injuries were not serious.
