Library Hosting April Events
The Spokane Public Library system will host a plethora of events throughout April at various branches.
The Shadle Park Branch at 2111 W. Wellesley will host “Sacagawea,” presented by actress Sara Edlin-Marlowe, on April 13 at 7 p.m.
Edlin-Marlowe has a master’s degree in fine arts in theater from the University of Hawaii in Honolulu.
She will present historical encounters, dramatic moments and literary passages surrounding Sacagawea.
Diana Marre will host a program called “The Blues: Evolution of an Art Form” at 7 p.m. on April 13 at the East Side Branch, 524 S. Stone, and again at 7 p.m. the following day at the Indian Trail Branch, 4909 W. Barnes.
Beginning with African call and response music, Marre traces the development of song, the spiritual, and the blues, emphasizing the ways in which they reflect the African-American culture from which they emerged.
On April 13, the Hillyard Branch, 4005 N. Cook, will host “Censorship: The Stone in the Shoe of a Free Society.” It will be hosted by Whitworth Communications Professor Gordon Jackson at 7 p.m.
He will offer a four-part look at censorship in contemporary U.S. society by examining the difficulty of a common definition of censorship, arguments for and against censorship, a suggested way forward and an opportunity for audience participation in a case study.
All programs are free and open to the public, and disabled access is available. For more information, call 444-5380.
