Egghead.Com Shares See High Volume

Propelled by positive analyst coverage, shares of Egghead.com Inc. jumped 29 percent ($4.88) in trading Thursday to close at $21.87 on the Nasdaq stock market.

Several investment banks that participated in Egghead’s stock offering of 5 million shares last week have initiated analyst coverage of the company. Egghead said it has built a strong marketing relationship with GeoCities, an Internet community site.

On Thursday, U.S. Bancorp Piper Jaffray analyst Steven Franco rated Egghead a “strong buy.”

Some 22.65 million Egghead shares were traded Thursday, compared with an average daily volume of 2.3 million shares. On Thursday, Dell Computer and Network Associates were the only Nasdaq stocks with higher trading volumes.
