Post Falls Sweeps Visitors

Post Falls invited two teams to its baseball field on Saturday, and sent both home with losses.

Ty Van Brundt hit a two-run homer in the sixth inning and Andy Mikles struck out 10 in six innings during the Trojans’ 7-2 win over J.L. Crowe of Trail, British Columbia. Josh Hocking added a two-run double in the third.

Scott Klaudt, who had six hits on the day, homered in the second game, an 11-4 win over Newport. The Trojans scored six unearned runs in the third to support winner Ty Smith (1-1).

Trent Duffey struck out six and walked none as St. Maries defeated visiting Grangeville 14-4 to complete a non-league sweep.

Kyle Stevenson had four RBIs to support Duffey (1-1). The Lumberjacks won the opener 12-7, with Lucas Ware hitting a solo homer in the fifth and Jake Adams adding two RBI doubles.

Justin Romesburg homered in the second game to help complete Clarkston’s 13-3, 13-5 non-league sweep of visiting Lake City.

Lake City’s Sean Moglia had three hits in the first game. Clarkston scored eight unearned runs in the second game.

Adam Rouse went 3 for 3 in the first game and Craig Craviotto homered in the second game as visiting Timberlake swept Wallace 12-2, 12-2 in non-leaguers.

Wallace’s Josh Lavigne was 2 for 2 in the first game.

Pendleton (Ore.) recorded a 17-4, 10-6 sweep during a non-league doubleheader at Lewiston. No details were reported.

Softball

Hillary Strom struck out 19 in Mount Si’s 5-4 non-league win at Lake City.

The Wildcats, of Snoqualmie, Wash., snapped a 4-all tie with an unearned run in the top of the ninth. Bobbi Daretta (0-1) of the Timberwolves struck out 10.

Rebecca Triplett’s two-run single highlighted a three-run seventh as East Valley edged Coeur d’Alene 3-2 in a non-leaguer at Lewis and Clark’s Hart Field.

CdA stranded two baserunners in its seventh.

The Vikings also dropped a 5-1 game to LC. Kaylene Fountain of the Tigers struck out 10.

Tiffany Holdahl went 5 for 7 and finished with five RBIs as St. Maries (2-3) split a non-league doubleheader with visiting Grangeville (1-2).

Holdahl tripled and Lumberjacks batters drew 10 walks during a 13-3 win in the second game. St. Maries led the opener 4-1, with Holdahl doubling twice, but Allison Bender walked five in the Bulldogs’ five-run sixth.

Lewiston swept a non-league double-header from visiting Gonzaga Prep, 9-8 and 10-3. No details were reported.

Sandpoint traveled to Clarkston and split a doubleheader, winning the first game 4-3 and dropping the second 6-5. No details were reported.

Track and field

Central Valley’s boys and girls captured team titles at the Lewiston Invitational.

CV’s boys scored 112 points to edge Grangeville by three. Lewiston placed third with 107 and Lake City was fifth with 61.

Moscow’s Maurice Williams won the 100and 200-meter runs. Charlie Miller of LC swept the 1,600 and 3,200.

CV’s girls scored 102 to the 79.5 of runner-up Lake City. Coeur d’Alene took fourth with 61.

CdA’s Kira Thompson won the 800 and ran a leg on the Vikings’ first-place 800-relay team. Chanelle Frei won the 400 and Carly Smith the 300 hurdles for LC.
