Class act: Birds of Eastern Washington, a three-day course including classroom sessions and a field trip, runs April 20, 22 and 24. The course, taught by Maurice Vial, is conducted through the Spokane Falls Community College Institute for Extended Learning, 533-3771.
Planting for birds: The Arbor Day celebration at Finch Arboretum on April 24 features a Washington Fish and Wildlife Department display with information on creating a backyard bird sanctuary. Everything necessary for inviting birds into your backyard is in a packet available from the department.
Honoring travelers: Turnbull National Wildlife Refuge, 235-4723, south of Cheney, and Kootenai National Wildlife Refuge, (208) 267-3888, near Bonners Ferry, Idaho, have birding activities planned for Migratory Bird Day on May 9.
