Churches Anticipating Holy Week
Preparations for Easter are well under way at South Side churches. Some churches are also planning special events for Palm Sunday and the beginning of Holy Week.
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church will present a performance of “The Cross” during the 10 a.m. worship service Sunday. A shortened version of a full-length drama that the church has performed in years past, the story deals with the events surrounding Jesus’ crucifixion on the cross.
All are welcome. The church is located at 5720 S. Perry.
The kids of Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church will present a musical during the 9 and 10:30 a.m. worship services on Sunday. The performance will be put on by the children in grades 4-6. The church is at 4102 S. Crestline.
The Passion Gospel will be read in dialogue style during services at 8, 9 and 11 a.m. Sunday at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.
At the beginning of the 9 a.m. service, the congregation will gather in the Great Hall for the annual palm procession into the cathedral.
Services will also be offered at 7 a.m. each day during Holy Week in the cathedral’s All Saints Chapel. The cathedral is located at 127 E. 12th.
Gospel group to perform Sunday
Park Heights Baptist Church, 5101 S. Freya, will host the “King’s Heirs” during the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday. The gospel group is based in Lewiston and has performed across the Northwest as well as in Russia.

Potluck lunch scheduled
Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ will host a potluck lunch following the 10:30 a.m. worship service Sunday. The youth of the church will put on a baked goods and craft sale at the same time. The church is located at 411 W. Washington.
