High-Speed Chase Ends In Arrest
A 19-year-old man was jailed after a high-speed pursuit through the Spokane Valley ended early Friday.
Robert M. Strader, 5920 E. Trent, was arrested on suspicion of attempting to elude a police vehicle. A DUI charge is pending, deputies said.
The chase began around 4:15 a.m. Friday after a deputy saw a Honda Civic headed northbound on Sullivan Road at 80 mph.
The deputy chased the car, which slowed to 50 mph after the deputy turned on his siren and lights.
The Honda ran a stop sign at Wellesley and turned west. It ran another stop sign at Progress and then the stop light at Argonne and Upriver.
The deputy called for help and a Spokane police officer put a spike belt across the roadway at Upriver and Frederick.
The Honda drove over the spikes, which flattened all four tires. It continued until the tires flew off in pieces.
The car finally stopped on Upriver just west of Havana. There, officers arrested Strader. No one was injured during the pursuit.
