Two Rogers Seniors Scholar Finalists

FROM FOR THE RECORD (Friday, March 26, 1997): Correction Wrong school: Lakeside Middle School in Plummer, Idaho, will give away free wood from its old gym floor on Monday. A story in Thursday’s North Side Voice incorrectly reported Lakeside Middle School in Nine Mile Falls as the school.

Rogers High School seniors Nicole Hutches and Dawn Sisk were recognized as scholar finalists in the National Hispanic Recognition Program.

Also, Deb Crapes, the school’s career counselor, was notified earlier this week that Hutches just received a four-year, Air Force ROTC Scholarship.

Crapes said Hutches is considering attending the University of Idaho.

Sisk, who is heavily involved in music, drama and has a course-load of advanced placement classes in addition to working after school, has expressed interest in attending Whitworth College.

“I’ve worked with both of them in the career center,” Crapes said. “They’re both excellent students and they’re both very motivated.”

Hutches and Sisk qualified as finalists as they both registered high marks in the Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test-National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test.

Of the 150,000 students nationwide who identified themselves as Hispanic, the top 3,000 were named as finalists.
