Holy Week Marked By Valley Churches

Sunday marks the beginning of Holy Week and many Valley churches are planning special services and putting the final preparations on their Easter celebration plans.

Here’s a sampling of activities:

The Pasadena Park Church of the Nazarene, 8822 E. Upriver Drive, will present “When He Comes,” a dramatizatin of the Easter story, at 7 p.m. on Friday. There is no charge.

The choirs of Zion Lutheran Church and St. John Vianney Catholic Church will perform during an evening prayer service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at St. John Vianney, 501 N. Walnut Road. A soup supper will precede the service at 6 p.m.

Zion Lutheran, 8304 E. Buckeye, will host Holy Week services at 7 p.m. Thursday and at 12:10 and 7 p.m. Friday. For more information call the church office at 926-5407.

Millwood Community Presbyterian Church, 3223 N. Marguerite Road, will host a worship service at 7:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 12817 E. Broadway, will host a Maundy Thursday service at 7 p.m. Symbolic foot washing will be included. A Good Friday service will be offered at 7 p.m.

Opportunity Presbyterian Church, 202 N. Pines, will have a diorama of the Last Supper during a 7 p.m. worship service Thursday. A soup supper will be served preceding the service at 6 p.m. An additional service will begin at 7 p.m. Friday.

The choir of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 810 S. Sullivan Road, will perform the cantata “God So Loved the World” during the 11 a.m. worship service Sunday. The church will also host 7 p.m. worship services on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. The Thursday service will be preceded by a soup supper at 6 p.m.

Church members will gather for a tri-parish Stations of the Cross Friday at noon at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 304 S. Adams. The congregations of Good Shepherd, St. Mary’s and the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection often participate in joint services and events.

Christ Lutheran Church, 13009 E. Broadway, will host Holy Week services at 7:30 p.m. on both Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

Foothills Community Church, 11102 N. Forker Road, will host a worship service at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Holy Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church will have its Holy Week services at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.
