Nip Trouble In The Bud

If you feel compelled to do something about the senseless tragedy in Littleton, Colo., look no further than your own neighborhood. There are troubled kids here who need the attention and guidance of responsible adults.

We wish to recognize one example of local residents helping to instill a sense of responsibility in kids with behavioral problems. Last week, the Nature Conservancy of Idaho announced it has formed a partnership with the Anchor House in Coeur d’Alene, a residential treatment facility for troubled boys.

The goal of Anchor House is to “help each child find the hope, vision, courage and will to succeed” by teaching “values, responsibility and self-discipline in a caring and supportive environment.”

The Nature Conservancy is putting these boys to work on projects such as fence repair, trail maintenance, garbage cleanup and habitat restoration at the Cougar Bay Preserve on Lake Coeur d’Alene. The boys will benefit from the hard work and discipline, and should take pride in their positive contribution to the community.

We believe the Nature Conservancy is making a difference, too, by blending its conservation mission with the humanitarian mission of Anchor House. Keep up the good work.
