Airport Adds Third Metal Detector

From Staff

Spokane International Airport will add a third metal detector and X-ray machine combination in the rotunda leading to concourses A and B.

The new equipment will dramatically decrease the wait for passengers, said Todd Woodard, airport spokesman.

Airport officials plan to close the passenger screening area tonight at 8:30 to install the equipment, Woodard said. The last flight leaves at 8:25 p.m.

People meeting flights that arrive after the screening area closes should wait in the baggage claim area, Woodard said.

Security will reopen at 4:30 a.m., in time for the first morning flight at 5 a.m., he said.

Airlines that use the airport are paying the $39,226 tab for the equipment.
