Fired County Nurse Reinstated

The Spokane County Civil Service Commission has reinstated a jail nurse who was fired last summer.

Pamela McIntyre’s reinstatement will be retroactive to her termination date, and she will receive back pay and benefits, the commission ruled Thursday.

McIntyre was fired in August 1998 after sheriff’s department officials concluded she could not perform more than one task at a time.

“This inability has resulted, on several occasions, in dangerous situations which endangered the health of patients in your care,” Sheriff John Goldman wrote in a letter explaining McIntyre’s firing.

The commission rejected that argument after McIntyre appealed her termination.
