Washington’S Top Brass Sued

Howard Milstein filed suit against Washington Redskins president John Kent Cooke and general manager Charley Casserly, claiming they interfered with his failed attempt to buy the NFL team for $800 million.

The suit seeks unspecified damages. It does not ask for an injunction to stop the sale of the team to Daniel Snyder, Milstein’s former partner.

Barry Sanders has two weeks to let the Detroit Lions know his intentions.

Coach Bobby Ross wants to learn by June 1 if Sanders intends to play this year. Ross and the Lions know no more about Sanders’ plans than they have read in newspaper reports quoting his father, William Sanders, and sources in whom Sanders has confided.

Sanders has not responded to attempts by Ross or the news media to reach him, but his father and others have said he is frustrated with the Lions and is considering retirement after 10 All-Pro seasons.

The Arizona Cardinals, the only franchise in the four major pro sports to play on a college campus, could soon have a home of their own.

If voters in Mesa and two smaller communities give the go-ahead today - and the latest poll shows the race a virtual dead heat - the Cardinals won’t just have a home, they’ll have a palace, the centerpiece of the $1.8 billion Rio Salado Crossing.

Now would seem the time for the Cardinals to win at the ballot box. The team had its first winning record in 14 years and won a playoff game for only the second time.
