Pair Arrested In Cop Shooting Incident

From Staff Reports

A man and a woman were arrested late Wednesday in connection with shots allegedly fired at a Kootenai County sheriff’s deputy last week.

According to a press release, Lawrence E. Gomez, 32, of Coeur d’Alene, and Heidi Marie Hageman, 28, of Athol, were arrested without incident on charges of aggravated assault.

No further information about the arrests was released.

On May 12, a sheriff’s deputy reported that motorists fired several shots at him. He was not injured, nor was his patrol car damaged.

The incident occurred near Chilco, along Remington Road. The deputy said he tried to stop a truck that was reported stolen in Spokane. The truck accelerated, and the driver reached out the window and fired several shots at the deputy’s car.

Two people eventually fled from the truck while the deputy waited for assistance. Several more deputies and Idaho State Police troopers searched the wooded area that day, but did not find anyone.
