ADAMS COUNTY Ritzville

The cool, damp spring has hurt golf course business. With sparse play, pro Ron Barker says he’s spent time remodeling the clubhouse. New carpeting is planned in the clubhouse and on the deck.

FERRY COUNTY Republic

People parking downtown are reminded not to loiter. The city has passed an ordinance limiting parking to two hours on downtown portions of Clark, Sixth and Delaware streets. Fines range from $10 to $50 for staying too long, and towing is a possibility if the vehicle is left in the restricted area more than 24 hours.

GRANT COUNTY Soap Lake

Soap Lake third-graders scored average or above average in all subjects on the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. Eighth-graders averaged 73 percent in reading, 76 percent in math and 78 percent in social studies.

LINCOLN COUNTY Davenport

Police Chief Charlie Varain says he and four reserve officers will find a way to cover shifts following the resignation of Officer Leesa Whitney. Whitney, 24, left her position for undisclosed reasons.

The Colville Elks Golf Course is offering a $500 reward for the arrest and conviction of the people who damaged four golf carts last week. The perpetrators broke into a locked shed, hot-wired the carts and damaged them while driving the course late at night. The bill for damages came to more than $8,000.

WHITMAN COUNTY Pullman

The Washington State University Museum of Art will display “From Benton to Bartlett: Recent Acquisitions,” from Wednesday through Aug. 1. The exhibit includes works from the Richard and Margaret Aiken Collection. It includes such artists as Helen Frankenthaler, Robert Motherwell, Frank Stella, Jennifer Bartlett, and Robert Rauschenberg.

After a $244,500 plant facilities levy failed Tuesday, the Whitepine School District has decided to pursue another to protect students. The school board will discuss the issue Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Bovill Elementary.

The West Shoshone Hospital District board and Quorum Health Group has announced Gary Moore of Arcadia, Fla., as the new chief executive officer of Shoshone Medical Center.

LINCOLN COUNTY Libby

The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an incident of attempted winemaking at the Lincoln County Jail. Several inmates are believed involved. They allegedly rubbed a hole through a stool and put fruit and juice in it to ferment. It was discovered by a detention officer before it started to ferment.
