Shooting Suspect Pleads Innocent

From Staff Reports

A Republic man accused of attempted second-degree murder in the April 26 shooting of a Ferry County sheriff’s deputy pleaded innocent Tuesday in Superior Court.

Kenneth T. Atwood, 38, also pleaded innocent to a charge of second-degree assault and was scheduled for trial Sept. 8.

Atwood is accused of shooting Deputy Matt Lane in the face with a semiautomatic assault rifle when Lane responded to a report that Atwood struck neighbor Melody Roofner in the mouth with the rifle on April 26.
