School Motto Describes ‘99 Graduating Class

Jim Schibel North Central High School

Class of ‘99 Special graduation edition

From the nail-biting anxiety and pathetic (but, oh so real) fear of body-pierced upperclassmen our freshman year, to the good times, parking privileges and graduation stress of senior year, North Central’s Class of 1999 can be summed up with three words: our school motto, “Spirit, Tradition and Pride.”

During many a winless night, in grandstands and bleachers, our spirit was all we had. Yet, defeats were just as sweet as any victory, for WE had spirit, WE DID, WE had spirit, HOW about THEM? If truly “the proof is in the pudding,” three out of the past four Groovy Shoes spirit competitions flavor North Central’s Class of ‘99 pudding.

The incessant inspiration of Mrs. Bowles’ daily pep announcements, in addition to the wacky costumes and beaming grins donned by the student body during spirit week, will undeniably be associated with our class’ enthusiasm. NC’s annual Mardi Gras parade - butcher-paper-covered book cart floats and all - exemplify yet another exhibition of our 1999 senior spirit.

This year, NC’s graduating class has shared the traditions of 90 preceding classes. In addition to entertaining one another in two productions of our renowned Doll Shop, we “busted moves” and “kept it real” at pep cons and rallies by loyally blasting out lyrics to our time-honored “Red and Black” fight song.

We, graduates of ‘99, have continued to excel in various school activities, from DECA state honors and awards, to the determination and achievement of our revered NC soccer and other sports teams. Our fine art program has graced city galleries and stages with a myriad of senior masterpieces and musicians as well.

North Central’s pride is the foundation for our class camaraderie and sense of community that keeps our student body strong. Driven by pride, North Central seniors were instrumental in the motivation of the entire school in collecting over 37,000 food and necessity items for the needy.

Our school pride also surged through senior veins as we donated generous amounts of blood to the Spokane Blood Bank. The Centennial Trail has been tidied, veterans have been honored and mittens warm the hands of cold children, all attributed to the strong sense of pride of North Central’s senior Class of 1999.

As NC’s last graduating class of the 20th century, we have and will continue to add credence to the slogan: SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST!
