Two Churches Plan Joint Bible School

We know that summer is nearly upon us when churches begin accepting registrations for vacation Bible school sessions. This year Northwood Presbyterian Church and St. David’s Episcopal Church are planning a joint Bible school June 20-24.

A kick-off event will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, June 13, at St. David’s, 7315 N. Wall. The evening will include a potluck picnic, a wandering minstrel, face painting, jousting and a jumping castle.

The vacation Bible school sessions, with the theme “Son Castle,” will run from 6 to 8:15 p.m. nightly at Northwood, 6721 N. Monroe. Each evening will include a skit and a meal. Classes are open to all children in pre-kindergarten through grade seven.

There is no charge, and advance reservations are not required. For more information, call St. David’s at 466-3100 or Northwood at 328-2012.

Memorial services this weekend

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church will observe the Saturday of the Souls with a liturgy at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. Additional memorial services will be held at noon at Riverside Cemetery and at 1 p.m. at Pines Cemetery.

Church members will also be joined by the congregations of St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox and St. John Orthodox for Kneeling Vespers at 6 p.m. Sunday. A potluck dinner will follow, with the Rev. Theodore Dorrance of St. John Greek Orthodox Church of Portland speaking on Orthodox missions.

Youth choir performs Saturday

Knox Presbyterian Church, 806 W. Knox, will host “Called Out” in concert at 7 p.m. Saturday. The group is the youth choir of Shoreline Covenant Church in Shoreline, Wash. The free performance will include dance and a variety of music ranging from gospel to ‘40’s to contemporary Christian.

Sacred-music concert tonight

The Tour Choir of Immanuel Lutheran College in Wisconsin will perform at 7 p.m. today at Trinity Lutheran Church, 4704 N. Wall. The concert, titled “The Son in Song,” will include a variety of sacred music using an organ, flute, trumpet and percussion. Admission is free.

Service changes at Country Homes

Country Homes Christian Church, 8415 N. Wall, will begin its summer worship schedule on Sunday. One service will be offered at 10 a.m. each Sunday, with the 8:30 a.m. contemporary worship service resuming in the fall.
