WASHINGTON
Adams County Othello
The Othello School District will run out of space for students by 2002, the state says, because the district’s schools are growing by 100 or more students each year. The district’s head count now is 2,915, well above state projections. Of that number, 791 are enrolled in the bilingual program, while the district expected only 645 bilingual students this year. The district is looking into expansion possibilities.

Grant County Moses Lake
Residents of Hiawatha Road are not happy about their potential neighbor. Central Washington Asphalt of Moses Lake wants to build an asphalt plant in the neighborhood. But the land is zoned agricultural, not industrial, and residents have signed a petition seeking to block the county from changing the zoning. Area residents already complain about Central Washington Asphalt’s gravel pit in the area, claiming dust and traffic congestion are a nuisance.
Lincoln County Wilbur
The local PTA’s soup-label drive is picking up steam. Hundreds of Campbell’s soup labels have been collected at Wilbur IGA to be traded in to the company for playground equipment and items such as balls and jump-ropes. People in Wilbur should plan to eat a lot of soup this winter as the drive is ongoing - just as student needs never end.
Pend Oreille County Blueslide
The railroad tunnel at Blueslide is closed to passenger train traffic. The tunnel is scheduled for repairs, and until they are completed, the Port of Pend Oreille wants to keep passenger traffic to a minimum.
