City To Host Finding Common Ground Program
The city is having the last of its Finding Common Ground programs, which use the arts to educate people about race relations.
Saturday’s free event, “A Human Psychodrama,” will be different from anything Spokane has experienced, said Vince Lemus, city human rights specialist.
John Gray (not to be mistaken for the author of “Men Are From Mars, Women are From Venus”) will demonstrate the difficulties of human interaction from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Convention Center Theater. The event takes place in three one-hour segments, during which participants will discuss barriers to communication. Then everyone will work on developing solutions to real problems.
The program is suitable for teens and adults.
The five-part Finding Common Ground series, sponsored by the city and the Washington Commission for the Humanities, was designed to put a contemporary spin on discussing race relations. The program has used movies, dance troupes such as the Northwest African American Ballet, and drum groups to send messages with more emotion than a speech or lecture.
