Cusick Hitches A Ride

Cusick saddled up Sattleen, and Sattleen settled the Northeast B-8 football race.

Jake Sattleen rushed for 145 yards, accounted for three touchdowns, and had 12 tackles Friday night to lead Cusick (8-1, 7-1) over fourth-ranked SpragueHarrington 36-32 at Cusick.

The Panthers advance to the State B-8 playoffs, which are two weeks away, as the league’s No. 1 seed. They’ll open at home against Southeast No. 2 Colton.

S-H (6-2, 6-2) moves on as the Northeast No. 2 and opens at Neah Bay (8-0).

Inchelium (6-2 league), the Northeast No. 3, opens at defending state champion Touchet. Inchelium defeated Cusick on the field earlier this year, but forfeited the game for using an ineligible player.

In the Cusick game, sophomore Jake Kirk added 96 yards and one TD on 12 carries for Cusick. The Panthers’ Dusty Person threw for 87 yards and two TDs. S-H was held to 94 rushing yards and 198 total… . Also in the league, Junior Paul Dart reached the 1,500 mark, rushing for 124 yards and a TD during Odessa’s 54-6 win at Lind (1-8, 1-7). Heath Voise of Odessa (4-5, 3-5) completed 10 of 13 passes for 204 yards and three TDs… . Pateros (6-3, 6-2) finished with a 49-0 win over visiting Wellpinit (1-7). Pateros missed the playoffs because it lost to S-H and Inchelium.

NORTHEAST B-11 Three teams stuck in fourth place

Wilbur-Creston, Selkirk and Republic all finished with a 3-4 league record, tied for the fourth and final spot to the league playoffs. They’ll play a Kansas tiebreaker at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Springdale to determine which team meets District 6 No. 1 Manson (8-0) in the playoffs… . Keith Anderson had three TDs, two receiving and one on a 37-yard interception return, and third-ranked Reardan (9-0, 7-0) defeated visiting Selkirk 39-6. Reardan, the league No. 1, hosts ninth-ranked Waitsburg (7-2) in Friday’s state playoff opener… . Josh Draper rushed for 92 yards and two TDs on five carries, and fifth-ranked Ritzville (8-1, 6-1) piled up a 42-6 win at Springdale (2-7, 1-6). Ritzville’s Jason Heider completed 5 of 6 passes for 101 yards and a TD. Ritzville plays Waterville (4-4) at home next weekend in its state opener… . Andy Schreck rushed for 122 yards and two TDs, and Nik Warwick had three interceptions as seventh-ranked Davenport (7-2, 5-2) defeated visiting Wilbur-Creston 27-6. Davenport piled up 314 yards. The Gorillas, No. 3 to the playoffs, open at DeSales (8-0)… . Kris Krohn caught two TD passes as Republic (3-5, 3-4) defeated Almira/Coulee-Hartline 47-6 at Coulee City. ACH finished 0-9, 0-7.

GREAT NORTHERN Perfect Pullman prepares for playoffs

Svaren Lucas rushed for 150 yards and three TDs on 20 carries, and secondranked Pullman (9-0, 6-0) tuned up for the playoffs with a 53-7 win at Newport (1-6-1, 0-6). Pullman’s Brian Zeches added 76 yards passing and two TDs. Pullman, the league’s No. 1 seed to the state playoffs, will open next week against Tuesday’s winner between Ephrata and Othello… . Idle Medical Lake (5-3), the league’s No. 2 to the playoffs, opens against East ValleyYakima… . What could be brighter for a right guard named Breiter? Chewelah’s Eland Breiter rushed 32 yards for a TD on a “fumblerooskie” play, helping the Cougars (4-5, 2-4) to a 20-0 win at Riverside (1-8, 1-5)… . Chad Charbonneau rushed for 173 yards and two TDs on 20 carries, lifting Lakeside (5-4, 4-2) to a 38-14 win at Deer Park (5-4, 3-3). Pat Day added two TDs and 69 yards receiving for the Eagles. DP’s Roger Henry rushed for 105 yards and one score on 13 carries. The teams combined for 10 turnovers, seven by Deer Park.

NORTHEAST A No 8-0 game this time around

Kettle Falls (7-2, 5-1) avenged its lone league loss as Jon Payne rushed for 228 yards and four TDs during a 43-14 win over visiting Freeman (3-6, 2-4). Freeman defeated the Bulldogs 8-0 three weeks ago. KF’s Justin Wagner added 129 yards and one TD on 22 carries. Jake DePell of Freeman completed 6 of 17 passes for 102 yards, and ran for a TD. KF advances to state as the league’s No. 1, and opens next Saturday against Cle Elum (7-2)… . Matt Gylling accounted for all four scores, two rushing and two passing, as Colfax (7-2, 4-2) defeated visiting Liberty 27-0. Gylling rushed for 80 yards on 19 carries, and completed 8 of 17 passes for 105 yards. Colfax’s Levi Culbertson added 14 carries for 125 yards. Colfax, No. 2 to the playoffs, meets eighth-ranked Brewster (7-2) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Moses Lake in a state play-in game.

SOUTHEAST B-11 DeSales is da best

Casey Richard rushed for 238 yards and had two long returns for TDs as topranked DeSales (8-0, 6-0) defeated Asotin 31-16 at Walla Walla to wrap up the league’s No. 1 berth to the state playoffs. Richard had a punt return of 85 yards and a kickoff return of 85 yards. The Irish won their 19th in a row. Dusty Appleford had an 85-yard TD run for the Panthers (6-3, 5-1), who earned the No. 2 seed and a home game against Kittitas… . Joe Cox returned a fumble 20 yards for a score and added a TD run as Pomeroy (4-5, 3-3) defeated Garfield-Palouse 15-12 at Palouse. Pomeroy sacked Jason Fox with 2 minutes left to preserve the win. Mitch Kriebel had six receptions for 98 yards and one TD for the Vikings (2-7, 1-5)… . Waitsburg tuned up for the playoffs with a 37-12 win over visiting Tekoa-Oakesdale (1-7, 1-5)… . St. John-Endicott (2-7) defeated Soap Lake 32-16 in a non-league game on the road.

SOUTHEAST B-8 Touchet’s too much with No. 21

Adam Sumpter threw three TD passes, giving him 18 for the year, and top-ranked Touchet (9-0, 6-0) defeated visiting Prescott 55-26 for its 21st consecutive win, tops of any level in the state. Tim Waggoner added 72 yards on four carries, and scored his 15th and 16th TDs of the year. The Indians have the league’s top seed to the playoffs. Donald Matson of Prescott (1-8, 1-5) rushed for 97 yards and one TD on 12 carries… . LaCrosse-Washtucna (7-2, 4-2) finished in third place when Dustin Colter rushed for 263 yards and three TDs during a 50-6 win over Kahlotus at Washtucna. The Tigercats’ Shane Hammond added three TD passes. He was 10 of 15 for 205 yards. The Koyotes finished 4-5, 3-3… . Jubilee Christian (5-4, 2-4) defeated Rosalia 28-16 at Walla Walla, handing the Spartans (0-8, 0-6) their first winless season since 1941. Chris Thornson and John Workman of Rosalia combined for 426 rushing yards on 28 carries. Rosalia has a 10-game losing streak.

IDAHO PLAYOFFS Lake City advances The Lake City High football team will get the rematch it has wanted all season. The Timberwolves took care of Skyview of Nampa in the first half en route to a 35-19 victory Friday night in the first round of the Idaho State A-1 Division II playoffs in Coeur d’Alene. Lake City built a 28-0 halftime lead and did just enough in the second half to keep the Hawks at bay. Second-ranked LC (10-0) will play host to defending state champion and topranked Eagle (10-0) in the semifinals Friday. Eagle advanced by throttling Sandpoint 54-13 at Eagle. Sandpoint was trailing only 20-13 entering the fourth quarter, but was outscored 34-0 the final 12 minutes at Thunder Stadium.
