Man Gets Jail Term In Mail Theft Case

From Staff

A Bellevue man who pleaded guilty to possession of stolen mail has been sentenced to four months in jail.

Martin L. Moks, 40, was sentenced Friday by U.S. District Court Judge Barbara J. Rothstein in Seattle.

Prosecutors say Moks and Jason A. Green, 24, of Seattle, stole credit cards and personal identification numbers needed to activate the cards from residential mailboxes in Lake Forest Park over several months. According to court documents, the two bought merchandise with the stolen cards and resold the goods for cash. Losses to area merchants exceeded $14,000, court papers say.

Both men were arrested June 30, after a Lake Forest Park resident called police after noticing two men taking mail from boxes.

Green also pleaded guilty to possession of stolen mail. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 19.
