Teens Earn Groups’ Highest Awards

The following 1999 high school graduates completed the requirements for the Wohelo Medallion Award, Camp Fire’s highest youth honor.

Katie Bowles, Kathleen Mountjoy and Abby Parsons, all of Gonzaga Prep; Liz Burns and Heather Storseth, North Central High School; Toni Johnson, University High School; Caroline Moore and Meghan Syron, West Valley High School; Lindsay Ota, Amanda Bafus and Kelli Renslow, Central Valley High School; Eleanor Tripp, Lewis and Clark High School; and Amanda Trudeau, Shadle Park High School.

Wohelo recognizes individualized projects which encourage service, leadership and advocacy for improvement of conditions in society. It takes three to four years to complete a project which is intended to be the culmination of the Camp Fire experience.

Logan Wilson, a senior at Lakeland High School, Rathdrum, Idaho, was named an Eagle Scout, the Scouts’ highest rank.

For his Eagle project, Wilson made improvements to the Horseshoe Bend recreation Area in Knights Ferry, Calif., where he lived before moving to the Inland Northwest. Through his instruction and leadership, his California troop poured concrete for public restrooms and planted trees.

Previously, Wilson was commended by the California Highway Patrol for his quick action and first aid given at the scene of an airplane crash.

Wilson, the son of Tom and Eileen Wilson, is on Lakeland’s honor roll.

Ron Backman, a 1999 graduate of Lakeland High School, Rathdrum, Idaho, has earned his Eagle Scout.

Backman’s Eagle project was to organize the construction of an outdoor volleyball court for Garwood Elementry. He oversaw every detail of the project, from drawing board to finished product.

Backman is majoring in computer science at the University of Idaho.

Nathan Bruneau, a student at Shadle Park High School, has earned his Eagle Scout.

His project was to complete the finishing work on a room at Garland Alliance Church, including the walls, ceiling, trim and metal duct work. He also installed electrical equipment.

Bruneau is the son of Ed and Susan Bruneau, Spokane.

Tom Feulner, a member of Boy Scout Troop 313, has earned his Eagle Scout. His Eagle project was to build picnic tables with portable benches for Immaculate Heart Retreat Center.

Feulner, a sophomore at Gonzaga Prep, participated in Philmont Leadership training in New Mexico. He is is the son of Bob and Sue Feulner, Spokane.

Reid J. Leinart has earned his Eagle Scout. He is a member of Boy Scout Troop 458.

For his Eagle project, Leinart coordinated the construction of two benches for the softball field at Keystone Elementry. His additional community service includes volunteer work for the Spokane Food Bank, Big Brothers and Sisters of Spokane, and Hoopfest.

He is a junior at Central Valley High School, where he’s a member of the football, and track and field teams.

He is the son of Phil and Jennifer Leinart, Spokane.
