Workshop Offered By Children’S Museum
The Children’s Museum of Spokane is hosting a workshop by Kenyan artist Nicholas Sironka who will demonstrate batik painting and talk about Kenyan culture with kids on Saturday from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Museum.
Sironka incorporates village life of his people, the Maasai, into his artwork. Batik painting uses dyes and wax to create a series of layers. His work is on display at the Koehler Gallery at Whitworth College through Nov. 18.
Admission is $3.75 (includes the workshop and general admission to the museum). The Museum is located at 110 N. Post in downtown Spokane. For more information, call 624-5437.
Also, the Children’s Museum is giving kids a chance to be “toy testers” this weekend. Three two-hour sessions will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and two sessions on Sunday beginning at noon and 2 p.m. Kids can explore games and toys that are educational, as well as some that just plain fun. A reading area with books will also be available. Several area stores, including the Children’s Corner Bookstore and Toys “R” Us will represented.
The testing will take place in the annex adjacent to the Museum. Cost is $10 per child for each session. Early registration is recommended. Walk-ins will be welcome is space is available. To register, or for more information, call the Museum at 624-5437.
