Young Ends His Run With 2 State Marks
Columbia High’s Justin Young polished off his senior football season Saturday by setting two Washington state B-8 records as the Lions outscored Curlew 56-42 at Curlew.
Young raced for 461 yards, pushing his season total to 2,917, and he scored five touchdowns on runs of 50, 11, 45, 31 and 35 yards for a total of 42. Nick Bates of Colton set the old records of 2,904 yards and 41 touchdowns in 1997.
The 5-foot-11, 185-pound back totaled 5,191 yards for his career, third behind Lonnie Simpson of Inchelium (6,274) and Brad Taylor of Wishkah (5,202).
Columbia finished the season 6-3 with a 5-3 mark in Northeast B-8 play. Curlew wound up 1-7, all in league games.
