Two Men Arrested After Traffic Stop

A North Side man was arrested on an outstanding warrant after a traffic stop Sunday night.

Max H. Markland, 42, who gave his address as 3008 E. Sharp, was pulled over at about 11:30 p.m. in the 1700 block of West Gardner for driving a car without license plate lights, Spokane police spokesman Dick Cottam said.

During the traffic stop, officers discovered that Markland had a warrant for his arrest in Stevens County, that his driver’s license was suspended and that he had no proof of insurance.

A passenger in the car had a hunting knife next to him and methamphetamine in his possession, Cottam said. He was identified as Tracy Eugene Morrow, 26. He gave his address as 1801 W. Gardner.

When officers started to handcuff him, Morrow hit one officer in the face and attempted to conceal his hands, Cottam said.

Morrow was booked into jail on two counts of felony assault on an officer and a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

Markland was turned over to a Stevens County deputy.

Accident temporarily closes bridge

Spokane police officers arrested a Chattaroy man Friday night after a three-vehicle head-on collision at the north end of the Maple Street bridge.

Randy A. Taylor, 22, who gave his address as 35312 N. Newport Highway, was arrested and booked into jail on a charge of vehicular assault, Cottam said. One witness said Taylor was driving southbound at about 75 m.p.h. when his car hit a curb, then went over the center barricade of the bridge, Cottam said.

The driver of one northbound vehicle was transported to an area hospital for neck injuries and was released after treatment. Another car was also involved, but there were no other injuries.

Officers closed the bridge at about midnight while the cars were removed.
