Swimming/soccer

Rikki Covey won the 200-meter freestyle and placed second in the 500 freestyle to lead West Valley to an 18th-place finish at the State 3A swim meet at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way on Friday.

Covey won the 200 with a time of 1 minute, 53 seconds and finished second in the 500 with a 5:01.72 clocking.

Pullman finished 14th on the strength of Autumn Sample’s second-place finish in the 200 individual medley (2:06.53) and fourth-place finish in the 100 butterfly (57.53).

Cheney’s Stephanie Wagar placed seventh in the 100 breast-stroke (1:08.39).

Bellevue easily won the team title with 303 points. Mount Rainier finished second with 189 points, followed by Bainbridge with 188.

Cheney finished tied for 28th.

Soccer

Brandon Solares and Chase DiStefano each scored a pair of goals as Northwest Christian crushed Sunnyside Christian 6-0 in a boys State 1A/B soccer playoff match at Albi Stadium.

Northwest Christian (14-0-1) had a 20-3 shots-on-goal advantage for the match.

NWC travels to Auburn on Friday for a semifinal match against today’s winner between Day Star and Overlake.

The other semifinalists are Charles Wright and Bellevue Christian.
