Finalists Named At Sfcc

From Staff Reports

Three finalists have been named in a nationwide search to select a new president at Spokane Falls Community College.

The candidates will visit the campus separately between Nov. 29 and Dec. 2. The new president is expected to take office in January.

The finalists are John J. Sbrega, vice president of academic affairs and student affairs at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Md.; Laurence D. Spraggs, vice president of instruction for science and technology at Red Rocks Community College in Lakewood, Colo.; and Diana VanDerPloeg, partner and owner of the Gerico Group, Greeley, Colo.

While on campus, each finalist will meet with Charles Taylor, chancellor and chief executive officer of Community Colleges of Spokane. They also will participate in separate forums with students, faculty, staff and administrators at SFCC.

Ronald Johns, vice president of the college, has been acting as SFCC’s interim president since former President Vern Loland left in the fall of 1997 to take a job in Texas.
