Nebraska, Wisconsin gain

Florida State is perfectly comfortable at No. 1.

The Seminoles (11-0) easily retained the top spot in The Associated Press’ Top 25 college football poll Sunday after completing their third perfect regular season with a 30-23 win over Florida.

Virginia Tech (10-0) held firm at No. 2 with a 62-7 victory over Temple on Saturday, and Nebraska moved to No. 3, replacing the Gators (9-2), who fell to No. 5.

Wisconsin (9-2), headed for the Rose Bowl to play Pac-10 champion Stanford, also improved one spot to No. 4, followed by Florida, No. 6 Tennessee, No. 7 Texas, No. 8 Alabama, No. 9 Kansas State and No. 10 Michigan.

Florida State, set to play for a national title in the Sugar Bowl on Jan. 4, is trying to become the first team to go wire-to-wire in the AP poll.
