Physical education shouldn’t be required

I understand that it is a requirement for all students at Mead High School to have two full years of physical education unless the student has a completely academic schedule. I do not particularly agree with this situation.

There are many classes that I was planning on taking this year that I have not been able to take because of this requirement. I believe it is the interest of many people to take more classes that are going to be useful in the future. Unless someone is planning on majoring in physical education, I do not believe this class is as important as Spanish class.

Physical education should be an elective, not a requirement. Please understand that I am not complaining about not liking physical education, but the fact that I cannot fit some of the more important classes into my schedule. Jennifer M. Zilar Spokane

Riverside High made Halloween memorable

Our family would like to give a warm thank you to the students of Riverside High School for the fun Halloween party that they provided for the kids in our community.

Everything was so well organized and well done!

Our boys thoroughly enjoyed the haunted house, corn dogs, games, activities and all the treats.

How neat that our Riverside High students and staff would volunteer their time and effort, on the Saturday night before Halloween, to provide such a special community event.

We appreciate all the planning and preparations it must have taken to organize this.

Thank you, RHS students and clubs, for sponsoring all the fun activities at this event.

You made our boys’ Halloween one they’ll remember. Bill, Leslie, Thomas and Ben Cushman Elk
