Chiefs Get Offensive In Win Over Rebels

The Spokane Chiefs snapped, with emphasis, their two-game home-ice losing streak Saturday night.

The Chiefs peppered Red Deer Rebels goaltender Shane Bendera with 45 shots, and held the Rebs to only 17, on the way to a 5-3 Western Hockey League win before 7,657 fans.

David Boychuk logged his sec ond goal in as many games with a slap shot from the left point off a faceoff won by Brandin Cote.

It put the Chiefs up 2-0 at the first intermission, and with it the Chiefs maintained the two-goal cushion they would carry into the night.

Cote also assisted on Lynn Loyns’ power-play goal that broke a scoreless tie 14:50 into the game.

The Chiefs traded goals with the Rebels in the second period, Ross Lupaschuk and Kyle Wanving scoring the for the Rebels, Tim Smith and Derek Schutz answering for the Chiefs.

With his goal - a little rebound shot from the doorstep - Schutz extended his scoring streak to 10 games.

Spokane’s Roman Tvrdon and the Rebels’ Justin Mapletoft scored in the third period.

The Chiefs (14-9), who had nine players get on the scoresheet, are out of the Arena until Dec. 10, when former Chiefs coach Bryan Maxwell brings his Lethbridge Hurricanes to Spokane.
