The Adams County’s school district is discussing its intimidation and bully policy at the Oct. 12 board meeting. Staff and administration want to let students know how damaging intimidation is to victims and help them take responsibility for their actions.

Ferry County

Curlew

Curlew Lake residents are urged to turn out for the Oct. 6 sewage wastewater treatment funding meeting. The Ferry County Conservation District will facilitate the meeting, which will focus on substandard septic systems and algae blooms. Grant funds are needed to fix the problem. The meeting begins at 6 p.m. at the Republic Parish Hall.

Moses Lake

The Port of Moses Lake got an economic boost recently as ground was broken on its water treatment facility. The lagoons will hold 27 million gallons of water and paves the way for more industry at the port. Construction should be completed in November. Treated sewage will be used to keep two irrigation circles in service.

The Wilbur-Creston athletic co-op has changed the way it handles parent complaints. When a complaint surfaces, the coaches, parents and athletic directors will meet. If issues go unresolved, the athletic co-op board will be brought in to hear the case. No complaints will be dealt with during postseason play.

County Prosecutor Tom Metzger is warning of a paving operation scam running in the county under the name Evergreen Paving. A company salesman offers leftover pavement at cheap prices door-to-door. The company brings more concrete than agreed to and bills for the larger quantity.

Denny Nichols, vice president of Goodman Oil, has been elected to serve as the president of the Lilac Festival. Denny Kane, president of SMI, has been elected president-elect. Cathy Tunstall, South Hill branch manager with Wells Fargo Bank, has been elected treasurer. Columbia River Christian Academy is collecting boxtops from General Mills products. The boxtops are returned to the company for cash. Each boxtop earns the school 10 cents. Sarah Jackson Sherman-Purce, daughter of Thomas Purce and Jane Sherman, has received a $1,800 Multicultural Achievement Scholarship for the 1999-2000 academic year at Western Washington University. She is a recent graduate of Pullman High School with a 3.41 grade point average. The scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate solid academic abilities, strong leadership qualities and a commitment to multicultural issues and activities in the school or community.

The St. Maries Council for the Arts and Hospice of Benewah County are sponsoring a dinner theater at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Eagles Lodge, 707 Main St. Sixth Street Melodrama will perform “Vaudeville Lives,” a musical variety show. The Rapid Lightning Road closure and detour to the upper Gold Creek road will continue 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. today due to construction. The Boundary County Public Works Department has advised that the closure extends from the lower Pack River Road to mile marker three.

A free community concert featuring the Celebrant Singers and Orchestra, an internationally-known Christian music ministry, will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Pius X Catholic Church. Ten singers and a twelve-piece orchestra perform contemporary Christian music, praise and worship, and give personal testimony and ministry.

“Women of the Ancient World” is the topic of the University of Idaho Women’s Center presentation slated for 7 p.m. Mondayin the Student Union Building’s Borah Theater. The presenter is Tames Alan, an actress, historian and fashion history teacher. She will appear in classical Greek costume to discuss the freedom of women in ancient Crete compared to the imprisonment of women in Classical Greece. The second portion of the program deals with the women in Ancient Rome and the final part of the program reviews the culture of the Celts.

The Staff House Museum, 820 McKinley Ave., has extended its season through October due to high summer attendance and expected vacationers throughout the fall. Further extension will be granted if visitor attendance remains high. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturdays through Mondays. Admission is family, $5; adults, $3; seniors, $2; students and children, 75 cents.
