Keyshawn Johnson has been labeled brash and cocky, but in an interview with Mark Cannizzaro of the New York Post the New York Jets wide receiver said he’s motivated only by winning:
“The numbers aren’t important,” he said. “With me, it’s win first. Everything else is second. If I’m not going to get the Ws, I’m not going to get anything else I want.
“Who cares about the numbers? It’s the dance that counts.
This guy is not to be believed. He cares about winning about as much as Scottie Pippen.
And speaking of Pippen…
The newest member of the Portland Trail Blazers has been making enemies ever since he left Chicago. Sports Illustrated’s Rick Reilly, for one, is not a member of the Pippen fan club: “Scottie Pippen ripping Sir Cumference (Charles Barkley) as a career failure? Please. Without Michael Jordan, Pippen is the world’s tallest Domino’s deliveryman.”
It was over before it started
It was only one game, the first of a best-of-5 series, but Randy Galloway of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reacted as if the series was over after the New York Yankees defeated the Texas Rangers, 8-0, Tuesday night.
“This has become the same as a real-estate transaction. The Rangers rent space in baseball’s postseason, but it’s strictly a short-term lease. And then the landlord comes with an eviction notice. That, of course, would be the Yankees.
“The Yankees own this property. Worse yet, the Yankees own the Rangers. Call U-Haul… . The Rangers once again will be packing up and leaving October in a hurry.”
Unbeaten and unimpressive
Ray Ratto of the San Francisco Examiner, on today’s Rams-49ers game: “The Rams are 3-0 because their strength of schedule is an oxymoron. The terminally mediocre Baltimore Ravens … the stunningly ineffectual Atlanta Falcons … the inexcusably awful Cincinnati Bengals.”
