Kmart Corp. plans to open 400 new stores over the next five years, including 70 stores next year, as the discount retailer moves to expand into larger, metropolitan markets.

Intel Corp. is paying $1.6 billion to buy DSP Communications Inc., a maker of microprocessors for mobile phones, in a bid to extend its dominance in computer chips to the coming boom in wireless devices with Internet access.
