* Teen volunteers needed! Family-A-Fair is looking for high school students to volunteer to help at this weekend’s activities. Students can work in two-hour shifts on Saturday in areas such as: helping non-profit booths with their activities for kids; wearing costumes or guiding strolling characters around the fair; helping celebrity readers with storytelling on STA buses; surveying fair-goers and more. Your help is also needed in setting up on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m.

For more information, call 456-3733.

* Teen Read Week is here! “Reading Rocks! Read for the Fun of It” is the theme of national Teen Read Week which began yesterday and runs through Saturday. Area libraries and bookstores are encouraging young people to get into the habit of reading. A growing number of teens are choosing not to spend their free time reading.

As part of the Teen Read Week, libraries are joining with SmartGirl.com to survey teens on their reading habits. To cast your vote on your favorite books and authors, go to www.smartgirl.com/teenreadweek.html before Oct. 24. Results from the online survey will be posted on SmartGirl.com, the American Library Association’s web site (ww.ala.org), in mid-November.
