Ritzville

Adults interested in a good workout are invited to the Lions Club, which once again is sponsoring its fitness center at the American Legion club. For $10 monthly, a person may work out between 7 a.m. and 10 a.m. Mondays through Thursdays. Management of the center is being donated by Lions Club members.

Ferry County

Republic

Class competition during recent Republic High School homecoming festivities was stiff, with the senior class eventually prevailing by having the most school spirit. But school spirit was second to family pride. Joleen and Mark Hover, sister and brother, were crowned homecoming queen and king during halftime of the football game against the Wilbur-Creston Wildcats. Joleen is a senior; Mark is a sophomore.

Grant County

Ephrata

It’s official: Halloween in Ephrata will be celebrated Saturday, Oct. 30. The City Council made the proclamation after several citizens, churches and community groups asked that trick-or-treating be held a day early this year. That will keep Sunday open for worship and also will give children a good night’s rest before school on Monday. The city also has switched dates for Halloween in the past.

Lincoln County

Davenport

Grant money is making a support group for sexual assault victims a reality in Lincoln County. The grant was obtained by the Lincoln County Counseling Center to begin a women’s group for survivors of sexual assault. The group will meet on Tuesdays, with the first meeting this Tuesday at 4 p.m. Women 16 years and older are encouraged to call (509) 725-3001 for details.

Pend Oreille County

Ione

Karin Cox has been elected unanimously as coordinator of the Ione Vitalization Project. Cox and her late husband, Conrad, developed Serendipity Golf Club and Conrad’s Bed and Golf, which she still owns and operates. Cox will help the committee plan improvements and activities in Ione. The group is not being called a “revitalization” committee because Ione “never has been vitalized before.”

Cheney

Political candidates will be at Cheney City Hall on Wednesday for a forum being sponsored by the Cheney Chamber of Commerce. Invited to participate in the 7 p.m. public meeting are candidates for the 9th Legislative District state Senate and House seats as well as the Cheney City Council.

Stevens County

Colville

Area artisans are being featured at the Colville Public Library through October. Potter Sandy Fetke’s works, plus those of her pottery class, are on display along with the photography of Barry and Shirley Bacon. The pictures are of the couple’s recent 18-day missionary trip to Africa.

Whitman County

Colfax

Whitman County commissioners will hold a public hearing today from 11:30 a.m. to noon on proposed zoning code amendments. The hearing will be part of the commissioners’ regular Monday meeting, which also will include a discussion of the project agreement for the Upper Seltice Bridge.

Benewah County

St. Maries

Students and local business owners will march from Heyburn Elementary School to the Benewah County Courthouse on Oct. 27 as part of the Red Ribbon Week anti-drug campaign. Businesses are sponsoring St. Maries students for the march. Classes and sponsors will construct banners to carry during the march, which will begin at 8:30 a.m.

Priest River

A child development checkup will be held Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Priest River Early Childhood Center. Bonners Ferry

Panhandle Health District has formed a diabetes support group in Bonners Ferry to provide educational programs and participate in special events to increase diabetes awareness. The district provides American Diabetes Association-approved educational materials.

Kootenai County

Coeur d’Alene

Kootenai Electric Cooperative is sponsoring the Great Torchiere Turn-in to encourage residents to turn in hazardous and energy-consuming halogen torchiere floor lamps and receive discounts on the purchase of energy-efficient compact fluorescent lights. The event will be Oct. 30 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Lake City High School.

Latah County

Moscow

The Moscow City Council Candidate Forum is slated for 7 p.m. Oct. 28 in the council chambers. Candidates for three council positions are Aaron Ament, Steve Busch, Michael Curley, Jack Hill, Evan Holmes, Allen Tholl, Michael Thomason and Travis Tonn. The forum is being sponsored by the League of Women Voters.

Wallace

The Shoshone County Community Concert Association will begin its 58th season Sunday. The Seattle-based Cascadia Brass Quintet chamber music ensemble will perform in Wallace High School’s Miner Hall at 3 p.m. Admittance will be by membership card only.

Libby

The YMCA organizational board, the Libby Parks District swimming pool committee and the independent Libby Swimming Pool Committee are combining forces to work for a public swimming pool. The combined board will conduct a feasibility study with each member volunteering to research questions concerning pool location, pool characteristics, social considerations and operations management.
