Shoplifter Faces Robbery Charge

A shoplifting suspect faces first-degree robbery charges after struggling with a security guard who tried to stop him from leaving a Valley supermarket.

Witnesses reported that a man entered the Fred Meyer store at Sprague and Sullivan about 3:30 p.m. and placed beer, cigarettes, juice, soup and meat worth about $58 into a sack he had carried in, deputies said.

Store security confronted the man as he tried to leave the store. The suspect then shoved his knee into one of the guards after attempting to punch him, deputies said.

Deputies arrested Alfred D. Crosby, 43, who gave his address as 15320 E. 26th Court, about 4 p.m. Wednesday.

A customer in the parking lot helped security guards control and handcuff the suspect while awaiting sheriff’s deputies.

Deputies said the more serious robbery charge was filed because the guard was assaulted.
