Shows Will Explore Indian Experience
An Oregon-based actor will give one-man performances Tuesday and Wednesday in Spokane that weave song, dance, history, commentary and poetry into a modern snapshot of the American Indian experience.
Robert Owens, of Lakota and Cherokee ancestry, performs a play called “Walking on Turtle Island” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Met Theatre. An arts and crafts auction begins at 5 p.m. It’s a benefit for the Spokane Medicine Wheel Academy, an alternative school formed in Spokane School District 81 in 1996 to address the cultural needs of Native American youth.
Proceeds will fund a student van.
Tickets are available at G&B Select-a-Seat at 325-7328 or call Audrey Bliss at 354-7110. Tickets are $10 advance, $15 at the door.
On Wednesday, Owens will perform, “The Role of the Wild Man and Mainstream Society,” at 11:30 a.m. at Spokane Falls Community College, SUB Lounges A and B, Building 17. Admission is free. It’s co-sponsored by the SFCC Associated students and Red Nation Student Association.
