WASHINGTON

Adams County Ritzville

Travelers on Interstate 90 will have easier access to information about Ritzville. The visitor information center is moving from downtown to the Red Barn at the I-90 exit for Ritzville and state Highway 261.

Ferry County Republic

Veterans needing medical advice may visit the Veterans Affairs mobile clinic at the Republic Hospital on Wednesday beginning at 8:30 a.m. Flu shots will be available to all veterans without an appointment. For other health concerns, call (800) 325-7940 for an appointment.

Grant County Moses Lake

Brian Steffler was killed in a car accident before he could bring in the sugar-beet harvest on the family farm. So neighbors brought in equipment and harvested the crop in two days for Steffler’s widow, Melani Steffler, and her children.

Lincoln County Wilbur

You could always find Ron Goodlake somewhere near the oil filters if not back near the tools. But locals looking for him at the Central Washington Grain Growers mercantile will have to check his home now because Goodlake is retiring next Friday. He’s training his replacement, Henry Carstensen, 25, an Almira High School alumnus who is familiar with the Wilbur area.

Pend Oreille County Newport

The local Kiwanis club is seeking used winter clothing to kick off the annual Coats for Kids drive. Blankets also are needed. For more information, call Joel Jacobsen at (509) 447-3708.

Spokane County Cheney

The city Parks Department is sponsoring its annual Halloween haunted house today and Saturday from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the Pierson Building at Third and D. Volunteers include members of Sigma Nu fraternity and Alpha Omicron Pi sorority.

Stevens County Colville

The city of Colville is planning leaf removal on Nov. 15. All residents are urged to pile leaves or bags of leaves near the edge of streets. City crews will make only one round through town.

Whitman County Colfax

Whitman County sheriff’s deputies will conduct their Halloween safety patrol throughout the county. Pullman Safeway store No. 1016 is assisting by donating candy for distribution. Children and parents are encouraged to dress for cold, wet weather, wear bright colors, carry a flashlight or glow stick, go trick-or-treating in groups with a guardian, use caution crossing streets and go only to clearly illuminated houses. Approximately 16 to 20 officers will be on duty Saturday, handing out candy, glow sticks and 911 stickers and helping raise awareness of safety issues. IDAHO

Benewah County St. Maries

Archie McGregor has been named 1999 Friend of 4-H by the Benewah County 4-H Club. McGregor was presented a plaque at a recent 4-H awards banquet for his contributions and support of the 4-H program. The awards dinner also marked the beginning of a 4-H enrollment drive.

Bonner County Sandpoint

Schweitzer Mountain Resort will have a job fair this weekend to fill more than 200 employment positions. Ski and snowboard instructors, lift operators, day-care counselors, food service workers, hotel and condominium staffers and rental shop technicians are needed. The job fair will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday in the Lakeview Lodge.

Boundary County Bonners Ferry

Boundary County elementary school students will celebrate National Children’s Book Week on Nov. 16 by dressing up as their favorite characters from favorite books. Kootenai County Coeur d’Alene

Coeur d’Alene High School’s DECA club will install officers for 1999-2000 on Tuesday. Three seniors - Molleah Ohrt, John Jameson and David Rhoads - will serve as president, vice president and secretary/treasurer, respectively. The ceremony, which will begin at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium, will include speeches by state Rep. Jim Clark, R-Hayden, and Diane McLean, manager of the Coeur d’Alene Sears store. Some 72 students are involved in the high school’s DECA club.

Latah County Moscow

Moscow school leaders have a new district strategic plan. A committee came up with nine goals and strategies the district could use to become more accessible to its patrons and more supportive of its students. The committee - consisting of school employees, parents, community members and students - spent several months collecting comments from residents and data about the district to complete the draft plan. The document was presented to the Moscow School Board and community members during a town hall meeting Tuesday.

Shoshone County Wallace

The Wallace Eagles and the Wallace Booster Club are sponsoring an open house in the former Wallace Civic Arts Center. Haunted-house hours will be today, Saturday and Sunday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Cost is $2.50, and proceeds will fund civic projects and school-related events.

MONTANA

Lincoln County Libby

Former Canadian government official and investment consultant Bob Tunis has taken over as director of the Lincoln County Economic Development Council. Tunis, who was born in Canada but is a U.S. citizen, worked for the past three years in Calgary, Alberta, as an investment consultant. He replaces Joe Chopyak, who left the job in August to continue his education.
