Bf’S Braden Second At State
Forest Braden of Bonners Ferry finished second in the A-2 Idaho high school cross country championships Saturday at Hell’s Gate State Park in Lewiston.
Bonners Ferry boys finished sixth and the girls took ninth.
Snake River’s Ryan Jenks won the individual title at 16:53.8, edging out Braden (16:59.4).
Other top-20 finishers for North Idaho schools included Rocky Howe of Grangeville, 10th (17:48.4); Mica Kunkel, St. Maries 13th (17:54.8); and Aaron Hanson, Bonners Ferry, 18th (18:14.0).
Snake River won the boys title with 56 points to runner-up Bishop Kelly with 69. Bonners Ferry scored 194.
Bishop Kelly easily won the girls title over Snake River and Donilyn Golding of Bear Lake won the individual title with a time of 20:33.7.
Jenny Liou of Moscow had the best finish among North Idaho girls, taking eighth in a time of 20:45.5 at the A-1 Idaho high school cross country championships at Hell’s Gate State Park.
The Lake City girls, which did not have a top-20 finisher, placed 12th in the team standings. Coeur d’Alene, was 15th and Post Falls 16th.
Meridian ran away with the girls title, scoring 66 points to second-place Boise’s 101. Janae Johnson of Hillcrest won the individual title with a time of 19:25.
In the boys race, Coeur d’Alene’s Travis Newby finished 12th with a time of 17:19.1 to lead the Vikings to seventh in the team standings.
Centennial won the boys race with 71 points and Morgan Anderson of Highland won the individual title in a time of 16:09.7. Post Falls finished 14th and Lake City was 16th.
Area top-20 finishers included Ethan Anyan of Post Falls (17th), 17:28.9; and Chris Vails of Coeur d’Alene (20th), 17:29.9.
Volleyball
West Side defensive Nampa Christian 9-15, 15-16, 15-6 in the championship game of the State A-3 volleyball tournament at Lewiston High School Saturday.
Wallace (21-9) was eliminated earlier in the day in the losers bracket by Homedale 15-5, 15-5.
Troy defeated Genesee 15-4, 15-12 in the championship game of the State A-4 tournament at Lewis-Clark State College in Lewiston.
Clark Fork, which split its first two games Friday, defeated Midvale 13-15, 15-12, 15-12 in the consolation final.
FOOTBALL Pateros prevails Clint Hull threw five touchdown passes, four to Bobby Sapp, and visiting Pateros (5-2, 5-3) defeated Curlew 38-6 in the Northeast B-8. Hull completed 15 of 22 passes for 256 yards. Sapp had five catches for 136 yards. Pateros is one game behind first-place Cusick and SpragueHarrington heading into the final game of the regular season.
