Kootenai County commissioners have set a date for a public hearing on a proposed tax-funded fire district.

The hearing on whether to turn the Mica-Kidd Island Fire Association into a taxing district will be Sept. 28 at 6 p.m. at the county administration building.

Mica-Kidd Island’s board of trustees favors forming a taxing district because it needs money to hire a part-time chief and to replace aging fire trucks.

The 20-year-old association currently charges yearly dues of $75. The proposed levy rate for the taxing district is 95 cents per $1,000 of assessed property value.
