(From Business Beat, September 25, 1999): Dr. David M. Johnson has been the associate medical director at MSC/Premera Blue Cross since March 1996. An item in the Sept. 5 Business Beat column indicated he recently joined the insurer.
NEW FACES:
Lemaster & Daniels PLLC has formed a strategic alliance with Michael Magliaro to provide operations and information technology consulting services for clients served by its Healthcare and Native American divisions. Magliaro was previously a senior manager with Deloitte & Touche Consulting’s southern region health care practice based in Atlanta, Ga.
The Spokane Area Economic Development Council has hired Nicole Moffatt as a manager of business development. Her duties are to recruit expanding and relocating businesses that offer family-wage jobs to the region.
Moffatt previously was a project analyst for Wang Global where she developed short- and long-term strategic proposals for the banking, retail and networking industries. She recently received a master’s degree in business administration from Eastern Washington University.
Gregory F. Hannan has been named vice president, retail production for Action Mortgage Co. He will oversee all of the residential retail loan production activity in Action’s four-state lending area. Hannan, who is based at Action’s Spokane headquarters, previously was sales manager for Bank of America Mortgage and co-owner of Inland Mortgage. He was a financial planner and stockbroker with American Express Financial Services in Spokane before entering the mortgage lending field. A former professional basketball player and coach in Australia, Hannan received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Lewis-Clark State College.

Dr. David P. Gruber has joined Neurosurgery Associates in the practice of neurological surgery. He graduated from Oregon Health Sciences University in 1992 and completed an internship and residency at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center. He also completed a fellowship at the Primary Children’s Medical Center.
Dr. Randall K. Jacobson has joined the Spokane Eye Clinic in the practice of ophthalmology. He graduated from St. Louis University in 1994, completed an internship at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center and a residency at Ohio State University. He also completed a fellowship at Ohio State.
Dr. David M. Johnson has joined MSC/Premera Blue Cross in the practice of family practice/geriatric medicine. He graduated from Jefferson Medical College in 1987 and completed an internship and residency at Lancaster General Hospital.
Dr. Jeffrey J. Knowles has established a solo practice in psychiatry. Knowles graduated from the University of Western Ontario in 1978. He completed an internship at Vancouver General Hospital and a residency at Sacred Heart Medical Center.
Dr. Kristi A. Rice has joined Dr. Karen S. Thrower in the practice of pediatrics. Rice graduated from the Medical College of Wisconsin in 1996 and completed an internship and residency at the University of Southern California-Women & Children’s Hospital.
Dr. Bruce E. Becker has begun practicing physical medicine and rehabilitation at St. Luke’s Rehabilitation Institute. He graduated from Tulane University in 1969 and completed an internship at Brooke Army Medical Center. He completed a residency at the University of Washington.
Dr. Andrew G. Cox has joined Inland Imaging in the practice of radiology. He graduated from Oregon Health Sciences University in 1993 and completed an internship at Presbyterian/ St. Luke’s Medical Center and a residency at the University of Colorado. He also completed a fellowship at Indiana University School of Medicine.
Dr. Cindy L. Gierke has joined Inland Imaging in the practice of radiology. A 1994 graduate of the University of North Dakota, she completed an internship and residency at Sacred Heart Medical Center.
ELECTED:
Dean Vercruysse and Arlen Baker have been elected to the executive board of the Washington State Council of County and City Employees. Both will serve two-year terms. Vercruysse will represent Spokane County employees. Baker, a maintenance technician for the Pend Oreille County Public Works Department and an 18-year county employee, will represent Pend Oreille County employees.
James R. McKay, past president of the Gardeners of Spokane Club, has been elected first vice president of The Gardeners of America/Men’s Garden Clubs of America. McKay has served as second vice president of the national group since last year. A retired Walla Walla ag teacher, he has been involved in the Spokane club for 10 years.

Coldwell Banker Grand Realty, 1403 S. Grand Blvd., Suite 101N, was ranked in the top five in the office size category of 21-35 agents for the second quarter of 1999 in buyer controlled sales in the state of Washington for Coldwell Banker Real Estate Corp. The real estate agency was cited for exemplifying “the standards of excellence for which Coldwell Banker offices are known.”
Vanport Manufacturing Inc. of Boring, Ore., has donated $5,000 to the Washington Agriculture and Forestry Education Foundation to fund a position in the foundation’s Leadership Program. A stipulation of the grant was that special emphasis be given to participation in the program by candidates from the Yakama Indian Nation.
